Dragonfly
The Dragonfly is a model of war machine that was originally designed and built in small numbers by a secret experimental-warfare branch of The Superlative as part of the Null-Body programme.
The original Dragonflies were extremely fast and agile, adhering to a doctrine of powerful engines and low weight. Indeed, historians of engineering have since come to the conclusion that several advancements in material science were first pioneered in the manufacturing of the ultra-light exoskeleton of the Dragonfly mech.
However, whilst the advanced construction of the Dragonfly facilitated its world-class acceleration, it seemed that none of the R+D budget was allocated to pilot survivability. The hull plating was so minimal that even contemporary infantry weapons could pose a threat to the Dragonfly. Even assuming that the pilot was skilled enough to evade incoming sources of damage, it was later determined that the thin shielding employed by the primary reactor was insufficient to prevent the pilot from eventually receiving a lethal dose of radiation. Of the original 20 Dragonfly pilots, only three lived past the age of 25.
The pictured model has been heavily modified from its original configuration; no Dragonflies were ever manufactured with asymmetric armanents due to the risk of unbalancing the already-lightweight machine. It also sports a revised, safer reactor and reinforced front legs.
Behind the scenes
As alluded to in the blub above, this version of the Dragonfly does not quite resemble that used by my character in our Beam Sabre campaign. Rather, it is a Lego MOC that was inspired by my designs for my character's vehicle, but ultimately evolved in its own direction based on what the bricks wanted to do.
